Veteran Dispatcher Retires - In 1975 Janet Lang set up a dispatch area in the kitchen of her home. At that time she dispatched for the Bar Mills Fire Department and Rescue. In 1978 she began dispatching for the Groveville Fire Department and soon after for the Chicopee Fire Department, the Buxton Constables and for the fire departments in the town of Hollis. Janet slept close to the telephone so she could keep a close watch over the towns. Once other full time dispatchers were hired and the town began to grow, Janet moved the dispatch to the Bar Mills fire station in 1981. In 1987 the dispatch was moved to Buxton Center and finally to its present station at the Municipal Building on Portland Road in 1992. Janet served with the town for 25 years.
